MH: Nah! *laughs* I usually do slutty crazy numbers where I can either do a strip tease on someone or do a slinky, terrifying blood-driven number and covering the look in blood or something. I try to use this to create a creature for you.ĬD: Because these looks you create are so big, do you ever find it difficult to create equally big numbers to pair up with the looks? I also have a natural resistance to things status quo or the norm but I know what is beautiful and I know what is crazy and I know what can inspire nightmares. MH: I’ll draw inspiration from everything and if i had a bazillion dollars, it would be even more than what it is but I think ingenuity and confining circumstances force you to really push it. Its that notion that made me want to archive every look as much as possible.ĬD: Your looks are so distinct, and so larger than life, where do you find the inspirations for them in order to keep it fresh? There are so many brush strokes to complete and entire face you know? So in that respect, each one is unique unto itself. *laughs* As corny as that sounds but you never see the same look exactly twice. the combination of all art forms and I find that each look is kinda sorta like a snowflake in way. MH: All of it! The hair, the makeup, the dressing. MH: Almost completely! I learned about color theory and how light falls on the 3D surface from painting classes and drawing classes.ĬD: What ultimately got you started in drag? MH: School of Visual Arts here in New YorkĬD: How did that have an influence on you as a drag queen and a photographer? My photos were always more of a fun thing for me and while it still is, I’m finding it taking on more of a prominent place in my world.ĬD: Where did you go to college and what did you study? MH: When I got to move back to New York City, so about five years ago. I didn’t get into drag until I graduated from college.ĬD: When did you start to develop your photography into more than just capturing your makeup looks? MH: No, I was more of a guy liner kinda kid when I saw the show, you know, compacts from Hot Topic and nail polish and death metal. So good! But it would be many years before I started doing drag full on.ĬD: Did it influence the makeup you were doing at the time? “ A Woman’s Got The Power” was the number she did but then it had just come out and was like this massive club stomper. I was terrified of everyone there and the drag queen was incredible. MH: I was sixteen and got into the gay bar in downtown Springfield and saw a show for the first time. MH: I like pwetty colorz! I was like 12? 13? I was a little (Marilyn) Manson freak growing up, a total angsty art fag!ĬD: What was your first exposure to drag? CD: So that is why I can’t do eyeliner for crap! I never asked my mom how growing up! What started your interest in makeup? Homes and offices account for 13 percent of the nation’s annual greenhouse gas emissions, with much of that from oil or natural gas burned in furnaces, hot water heaters, ovens, stoves and dryers. “Now it’s getting hotter and people need to cool their homes, so how can we do that in a sustainable way?”įiguring out how to cut emissions from buildings is one of the thorniest problems in climate policy. “Many of our homes were built for a different climate, when it didn’t get that hot and you could open the windows to cool down at night,” said Grace Rink, executive director of Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency. City officials caution that they still need to sort out what policy steps to pursue, though last year Denver voters approved a new climate fund, paid for by a sales tax hike, that could potentially help defray upfront costs. One idea under discussion is helping residents install heat pumps when it’s time for a new air-conditioner or furnace. This month, Denver released a plan for cutting emissions associated with heating and cooling its buildings. In Denver, which was hit by a 100-degree heat wave in June, nearly one-third of homes still lack air-conditioning, which is becoming increasingly necessary at a time when global warming means more intense and frequent heat waves, and more wildfire smoke that makes it hazardous for people to open their windows. Some cities are taking the idea seriously. “It’s essentially the same piece of equipment with a few extra parts, and you can make the swap with almost no extra work,” said Nate Adams, a home performance consultant who proposed the idea in a recent paper, written with experts at Harvard University CLASP, a nonprofit formerly known as the Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program that advises governments on energy efficiency. But if done right, proponents say, households would see utility bills either drop or stay largely unchanged, and they would even enjoy a more comfortable heating experience. So, the idea goes, policymakers would have to step in with subsidies or regulations to make adoption universal. Most manufacturers already offer heat pump versions of the air-conditioners they sell, but they’re typically about $200 to $500 more expensive to make. Existing furnaces would only need to be used as backup on the coldest days of the year, since many heat pumps work less efficiently in subzero temperatures. During the cooler months, heat pumps could warm homes far more efficiently than the furnaces that run on fossil fuels or electric resistance heaters that most households currently use, which would cut down on carbon dioxide emissions. That extra heating function is the key to helping tackle climate change. The idea is simple: If Americans are going to buy air-conditioners anyway, either for the first time or to replace older units, why not convince them to buy electric heat pumps instead? Although the name can be confusing, an electric heat pump is essentially an air-conditioner that is slightly modified so that it can run in two directions, cooling the home in the summer and providing heat in the winter. One common concern is that a surge in air-conditioning could make the planet even hotter, by increasing the need for electricity from power plants running on coal or gas, which produce emissions that drive global warming.īut some energy experts, as well as cities like Denver and Berkeley, Calif., have recently started exploring a counterintuitive strategy: Soaring demand for air-conditioning might actually be a prime opportunity to reduce fossil fuel emissions and fight climate change. As global warming fuels deadly heat waves across the country, more Americans in places like the Pacific Northwest are rushing out to buy air-conditioners for the first time. Also remember that floor lamps are easily moved around, which is great if you're refurnishing or if you need it somewhere else. This way, the light reflects on the walls and spreads throughout the room. If it’s an up- or down-lighter, they’re generally best placed in a corner. This way, the lamp doesn’t get in your way and provides the light you need. If the lamp is designed for directional task lighting, you should consider having it above or behind a sofa, armchair or table. The right spot to place a floor lamp depends on the type of lamp you have and your lighting needs. For example, with lamps like FLUGBO, you get both a flexible spotlight for task lighting and an uplighter to light up the rest of the room. This way, you’ll always have the right lighting for whatever you need. If you can’t choose, you can combine! In our wide range you can find floor lamps with dual light sources that can be switched on and off separately. Uplighters, like our NOT lamp for example, point towards the ceiling, which helps illuminate the whole room. Task lighting on the other hand, like our RANARP work lamp, focuses lighting in one area, perfect for reading or writing. How do you choose a floor lamp?ĭifferent types of floor lamps provide different types of lighting. Standing lamps like ÅRSTID are generally for the benefit of the whole room. Whatever style you prefer, you’ll be able to find a lamp you like in our wide selection. If you prefer modern floor lamps that give a clean and tidy look, choose materials like metallics and tinted or shaded glass. Wooden floor lamps are ideal for bringing some subtle texture into your home. For example, the upright, tripod and arc floor lamps are available in a variety of materials, including copper-coloured metallics and woods. There’s plenty of different styles of floor lamps to choose from. Or make reading a delight with some task lighting behind your favourite armchair or sofa. Create a zen mood in your living room with a soft light in the corner. Light up your world! Illuminate your home with cosy and practical lighting like our floor lamps and standing lamps. If the participant has a low accuracy for answering these usually rather easy questions, the experimenter knows that the participant was not fully engaged with the task. The reader is asked to read the sentence for comprehension and there will often be a comprehension question following the sentence. Typically, reading research uses trials that contain a single, stand-alone sentence (for a review, see ) to explore lexical processing. When we investigate the real-world task of reading online text (termed hypertext ), we need to take into consideration the way reading on the Web differs from the reading for comprehension task that is traditionally used in reading research. The task of reading on the Web causes readers to lexically process words in a markedly different way from typical reading experiments. Readers use hyperlinks as markers to suggest important information and use them to navigate through the text in an efficient and effective way. We suggest that readers engage in an efficient reading strategy where they attempt to minimise comprehension loss while maintaining a high reading speed. In Experiment 2, which allowed for navigating, readers only fully lexically processed linked words compared to unlinked words, regardless of whether they were skim reading or reading for comprehension. They did fully lexically process both linked and unlinked words when reading for comprehension. Results from Experiment 1 show that while readers lexically process both linked and unlinked words when reading for comprehension, readers only fully lexically process linked words when skim reading, as was evidenced by a frequency effect that was absent for the unlinked words. Embedded target words were either hyperlinks or not and were either high-frequency or low-frequency words. In Experiment 1, participants read static Webpages either for comprehension or whilst skim reading, while in Experiment 2, participants additionally read through a navigable Web environment. Across two experiments, we utilised eye tracking methodology to explore how hyperlinks and navigating webpages affect reading behaviour. It has been shown that readers spend a great deal of time skim reading on the Web and that this type of reading can affect lexical processing of words. Now, click the “Add” button and select the batch file that we created in the previous step. “F” gives the specified account full access to the folder and its children.įor more information on these parameters, see the Microsoft Technet article at In case you are wondering, OI is the acronym for “object inherit” and “CI” is for container inherit. Icacls ” X:\SQLData” /grant Domain\Username:(OI)(CI)Fīe sure to change “X:\SQLData” to your actual ephemeral drive folder structure and also change “Domain\Username” to the service account that you are using to run SQL Server. Here we will create a new batch file which contains the following text: Now you should be faced with a windows explorer window that points to “C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\Scripts\Startup”. Now you’ll want to double-click the “Startup” item on the right-hand side of the group policy editor to add the startup script. Next you’ll want to navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Scripts (Startup/Shutdown) Launch the Local Group Policy editor by clicking Start and typing gpedit.msc in the Start Search box, and then pressing ENTER. We’ll do that with local Group Policy, but don’t worry – it’s pretty straight forward. In order for SQL Server to start successfully, we’ll want to ensure that the folder structure is re-created at system startup and that the security is replaced so that the SLQ Server service account can read, write and create in this folder. Recreate the folder structure at startup: If you do, your SQL Server installation will almost definitely fail. When the ephemeral drive is wiped (before each system startup) the folder structure will quite obviously be lost and SQL Server won’t re-create this folder for you – but please don’t take the bait and just use the root of the drive for tempdb files. Something basic like “X:\SQLData” works quite well. Be sure to put the tempdb files into a folder structure. When freshly installing SQL Server, you’ll want to point the tempdb files at this ephemeral drive. Its speed makes it a very compelling option for SQL Server tempdb files and with a few pointers – it’s actually quite a viable and well performing option: Simply put this is a local (typically SSD) disk that can be used for temporary storage and is routinely “re-formatted” when your server either reboots or is power cycled. In a virtualized environment, especially with many of the industry leaders in cloud IaaS, you’ll have an ephemeral drive available. It’s used by a whole world of straight forward read-only queries as well making tempdb a potential bottleneck for even you most simple of uses. SQL Server loves to use tempdb and believe it or not it’s not relegated solely to the types of queries you might think, such as ordering and grouping. First of all, if you are not familiar with ephemeral storage, then check out our previous post on the topic. Report this issue to one of our customer support representatives. Closer to the sweet spot and moreĮfficient. The WX7100 is from my sight the better RX480. The Quadro P6000 beats the Titan X Pascal in Gaming. The WX4100, 51 are here, also the Quadro P5000, P6000 and a few I'm sure, the price of the WX7100 will help to survive, I plan a showdown after this NDA with all available cards from AMD and Nvidia It's under NDA until next week, but I have the most of this cards already in my hands. Nvidia will show on their booth (Solidworks World) the new Pascal Quadro lineup. But let's also wait for next Sunday/Monday. We merged this result with our previous findings, added the fan speed readings, and re-worked the infrared measurements.īefore delving into benchmark numbers, let's summarize the specifications of all three Radeon Pro cards: The production BIOS AMD sent over enabled a more aggressive curve, allowing the card to run a solid 14☏ (8☌) cooler. AMD was made aware of our measurements before the review went live, and company representatives provided the necessary corrections. As it turns out, AMD sent us a pre-production sample with fan curves that were far too optimistic the fan didn't spin quickly enough. Our initial coverage also unveiled thermal issues under full load. This was also resolved, compelling us to generate new measurements. During idle, the memory didn't clock down properly, resulting in power consumption measurements that were 34W too high. In addition, a bug reported in Creo 3.0 (M90, anti-aliasing active), which caused program crashes, was likewise fixed.Īnother issue hampered our efforts to test with an Intel Xeon E5-2640 v4 on an X99-based workstation motherboard. Reproducing the issue for AMD's driver team yielded another quick resolution. Then, we experienced crashes after activating FSAA in SolidWorks 2016. This problem was resolved after AMD’s team in Toronto provided us with several internal beta versions. To begin, the driver installer wouldn't recognize any of the new WX workstation cards, forcing us to swap in an older board just to get the software on our test machine. Several issues in our original review prevented complete satisfaction with AMD's Radeon Pro WX 7100. Update, December 1, 2016: Driver Problems and a Hotfix To our list, we add AMD's FirePro W7100 and W7000, both of which preceded the WX 7100, to track performance development. Given AMD's price point, it makes sense to consider Nvidia's Quadro M4000. So, what do we want to compare the WX 7100 to? It's a workstation-class card, so we immediately limit our pool to professional products. |
